We hear this question a lot. The correct answer is “We will leave when the boat is ready and the weather is good”.
However, we can expand on this a bit. My “to-do” list is a whole lot shorter than it used to be. We have made countless repairs, upgrades, and improvements to make Orontes II safer, more seaworthy, and more comfortable. The list now has only a few major projects to complete.
Here are the major things left to do:
- Install an extension on the bow to prevent the two anchors from fouling on each other.
- Improve the insulation for the freezer
- Install the external rudder for the wind vane
- Relocate the life raft on deck to make room for the dinghy
In addition, there are a number of smaller tasks that need to be done. These are mostly small and take a few hours at most. With everything considered, I believe we will be ready to depart by mid March.
After that, we just need to make several trips to Sam’s, Wal-Mart, Krogers, and boat stores and load up. We are getting close!
